I didn't realize this...
...but I'm rather hard on myself. I think most entrepreneurs can relate.
I'm not hard on myself with the harsh self-critic that says nasty and disparaging stuff (although that USED to me!)... it's something different.
Like... I would DO something... and I would always walk away thinking, "man I could have done better."
...and that is a TRUE statement. We can ALL do better. We can always DO more. BETTER.
...but I was letting that BLIND me from the good...from how good it already was. OF COURSE we can do better! ...but that FACT doesn't mean what you did was "BAD," right?! And isn't that what next time is for? So you can do better next time?!
The entrepreneur can be such a visionary, always looking forward...
...but do you ever look back?
...look back at how far you've already come? How much better you've already done?
This past Friday I had a two-hour drive alone back to Sedona. My team and I were hunkered down at an Airbnb in Scottsdale as we delivered the NEWEST version of my annual training event for entrepreneurs: The Business Breakthrough Experience

Fun fact: the first "version" of this training began way back in 2018. Eight years ago... then, it was just three 22-min videos.
And every year on that same drive home, I review and analyze my content and my performance... looking for where I could have done better.
But this drive was different...
I can honestly and accurately say, I gave it my all. It was the BEST of my BEST. MY 100%. I left it all on the line. And you know... just between us: I'm really, really proud of myself. Not just for giving my 100%, but for NOT falling back into the old way of replaying scenarios and living into the "shoulda, coulda's." Just a nice, powerful STAMP of my own approval.
And although the raving, positive feedback from our attendees was OVERWHELMING... the shifts, the breakthroughs, and the ah-ha's were flooding the chat... I didn't even let THAT become my barometer. That had ZERO bearing on this.
It's something that must come from within. To know yourself... where your abilities lie, to access all of them at your 100% and know for yourself: I'm at the edge of new potential, and I even broke through that.
To look for that KNOWING within yourself and not from the eyes of others... that isn't easy.
I share this all because I talk to too many entrepreneurs to know that MOST (all?!) are hard on themselves. And... it's blocking you. It doesn't help. It hinders. Constricts. Hurts. Instead... accept where you are on your journey. And know, where you are IS where you are. And it's perfect and wonderful. AND... you can always get better. It's... practice... time in the game. WHILE being gentle on yourself.
It's the discipline of saying yes to the hard... the consistency of doing the 5%... and over time (cuz time is your best friend in this game) IT ALWAYS PAYS OFF.
And boy... has it paid off for me.
Where I am today, the life I have the absolute privilege to enjoy today... IS NOTHING compared to where I started.
Young. Insecure. Afraid. Alone. Full of self-loathing. Frustrated - angry! ...and broke. So broke I couldn't even buy my girlfriend a gift for her birthday.
Well, today is a little different. I married that girl. We moved to our dream home in Sedona. We had our dream wedding... dream honeymoon in Paris... we get to travel everywhere... host events that help a lot of people... and (most importantly) have a F$#@ ton of FUN.
This business... this industry... this work has given me SOO much. So much for a long, long time now. And I want that for everyone.
Everyone who wants that for themselves.
But it will take something.
The ability to have the Patience... without the Punishment. The ability to believe in yourself every day, and take action toward your inevitable success without wavering, waffling, veering off course, or throwing in the towel.
That's what Business By Design has become. Not a "course." The container. The "BUBBLE" you wrap yourself in every single damn day to block out the noise, the drift, the distractions, the fear, the competition, and the doubts.
