James Wedmore

š TL; DR: This Week in The Digital CEO Weekly š
ā 5 surefire ways to overcomplicate your business (so you can do the opposite and simplify your business for growth)
ā Software tools we actually use to streamline operations, clear mental clutter, and automate where it counts
From the Desk of James Wedmore:
Iām writing todayās newsletter from our First Class seats to Maui, where Jenni and I will be spending a week relaxing and spending quality time with quality friends.

I realize I donāt talk about the ālifestyleā that our businesses support us with all that much. I think itās because that stuff doesnāt really drive or motivate me as much anymore.
Donāt get me wrong!
Itās wonderful to be able to travel where you want when you want, buy your dream home in your dream town, and afford luxuries like a private chef, private transportation, raw dog food (𤣠shit is expensive!) and First Class tickets to make your life⦠well, easier.
But I was experiencing all that even when my business was making 1/10th what it does now. So itās possible sooner than you may realize.
My business actually grew bigger AFTER my Purpose/Vision grew bigger.
But I think itās nice for you to be reminding yourself of all the WHYs that drive you to get back in the ring for another round of entrepreneurial ass-kicking.
So, in todayās newsletter I want to share with you simple practices for making your business more simple.
Itās an argument for:
The simpler the business, the faster it will grow.
But in my natural contrarian way, I must share these tips in reverse ā through their negation.
So this is:
5 Ways to Make Your Business 10x Harder & More Complicated Than it Needs to Be so it can Make Less Money
1. Don't Even Bother Having a Great Offer
Donāt test your offer.
Donāt create something that your people actually want.
Just focus on what YOU want, and spend all your time trying to convince people why they need something they don't want.
This is great, because it forces you to work harder and longer on messaging and marketing that will never work, because the offer was never going to convert in the first place. ;-)
(Side Note: Our 30 Day challenge for launching the Beta of your first digital product is popping! You can still join us if youāre serious about putting your product out there! Click here to get signed up.)
2. Make More Products
Since that first offer didnāt convert, you might as well just overcomplicate your business by creating so many products it will make your head spin⦠and overwhelm your audience.
This is great, because youāll spend more time updating, fixing and working through your marketing than actually selling these products.

3. Don't Even Bother Prioritizing List Building or Selling
Instead of focusing on the 5% of activities that actually grow your business, (building your list and making sales), itās best to fill your day with non-revenue generating tasks that COULD be done by an overseas VA for just a few dollars per hour.
This way you can fill your day with work and give yourself the illusion you are being productive even though you are just staying busy.
While you are at it, start several side projects that arenāt connected to your Vision, because you get excited about the idea⦠just make sure you donāt ever finish them.
4. Avoid Consistency Like the Plague
Doing the same thing over and over again is boring.
The more you do it, the better you become, the more streamlined the process, and the easier it is to get off your plate⦠eww! Who wants that?
Itās best to hop around from platform to platform, project to project ā the quicker the better.
If something works⦠why do it again? Isnāt it better to just start over and try something completely different?

5. Say Yes to Everything and Then Half-Ass It
Why do less extraordinarily well, when you could do it all unsustainably and at a mediocre level.
Do all the things.
Even the things that donāt produce results or suck your energy dry. At least you are staying busy!
Thatās gotta count for something, right?! Right!!
Ok⦠Iām playing, but I hope you are getting the idea.
Look, business can be way more simple than you think. (Remember, simple isnāt the same as easy, but simple can make things WAY easier than complicated ever did.)
If you want the elusive ā$10k months,ā thatās just 10 sales of a $997 product per month.
Thatās ONE offer.
Sold the same way over and over again as you build your list.
You donāt need to be on every platform, you donāt need a $20k fancy website, 15 products, fancy photo shoots, or custom coded software, do you?
Business is simple.
Attract your audience. Sell them what they already want.
Rinse. Repeat.
āļø Have the one offer.
āļø The one message.
āļø The one avatar.
āļø The all-in-ONE tech stack.
āļø The one sales strategy.
You get the idea.
When things are simple you will do them.
You will repeat them.
Things will feel light and fun. And then, you can have a friggin' life OUTSIDE of business!
Then... your virtual assistant will be able to help even more!
WARNING: Mirror Moment Ahead (avoid if you don't like to look at what you don't want to see!)
āOver-complicationā is a survival strategy.
It's an over-compensation of your illusion of lack - Lack of worth, lack of value, lack of deservedness⦠āIf I just complicate this a bit moreā¦ā
You are HIDING behind your complication. Simple feels... vulernable. Awkward. Uncomfortable. But no one ever said,
"Keeping things simple was the biggest mistake I ever made!"
So... Make is simple. Then, double it, and simplify it again. ;-)
Software to Simplify
Iām gonna be blunt: no software can simplify a chaotic mind. (oh dayum, mic drop!) So, it all starts within first.
But I will share with you some Tools that can help:
-
Have an all-in-one tech stack to run your business (we use Kajabi) - Something that captures emails, builds landing pages, takes payments and delivers your products. PLEASE use an all-in-one. Stop duct-taping shit together and calling that "simple."
-
Declutter the mind - ToDoist App helps to jot down tasks, notes and ideas quickly to keep your mind clear. When you have the thought or idea... GET IT OUT OF YOUR HEAD and document it!
-
Monday.com + Automation - this is our project management software and it has a ton of automations that set reminders, deadlines and recurring tasks automatically.
-
Intercom + AI - this is our customer support ticket software⦠it comes with a lot of AI integration to help write and resolve support tickets. During our most recent launch our Intercom Chat Bot was able to resolve over 1,000 requests and questions all on its own!
