Is AI Being Overhyped? (Part 2)
James Wedmore

👇 TL;DR: This Week in The Digital CEO Weekly 👇
✅ Why AI is still more "helpful assistant" than "business savior", and why most tools are overpromising and underdelivering.
✅ 15 surprisingly simple ways we're weaving AI into our business to save time while keeping the humans running the show.
From the Desk of James Wedmore:
Welcome to Part 2 of 2 in a series that investigates the actual utility of AI and AI-powered tools to drive growth and reclaim time in your Online Business.
Last week I started with the argument and warning that there is a lot of hype and overpromise happening in the industry. There are suddenly more $15/mo niched AI tools than we can count!
Most peers and clients at the 7-figure level I know admit to using AI less than 20% in their business.
They aren’t using magical “God Prompts” that automate their entire life, business, content and coaching while they sit on the beach drinking daiquiris.
Their entire marketing plan to "8 figures" wasn't just concocted by ChatGPT in 30 seconds and then handed over to an AI Agent to "get to work." HA!
Now look! I’m not “poo-pooing” AI... just the people that preach it with a level of extreme hyperbole and fear-mongering (“your business will die if you don’t adapt!").
And with the release of ChatGPT 5 and the "Agent Mode" feature, there is some REAL promise in the future utility.
(Note: cool video on "stress testing GPT-5 and some new features: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BUDmHYI6e3g)
I just don't want your brain gettin' lazy and smooth thinking it will think for you... that's all!
Something Promising... But Currently Underwhelming
I have eagerly awaited ChatGPT‘s newest feature, Agent Mode. This allows ChatGPT to eerily take over your computer and web browser to complete tasks.
This is where things have huge potential. Imagine booking tickets, creating slide decks, managing your calendar and email with ease.
Yet… it has been a bit underwhelming. Here is a great video showing its potential, but how it’s still underperforming. I felt the same way.

BUT with that being said, I’ve compiled a list:
The 14 Ways We Are Currently Integrating AI Into Our Business
These are specific use cases for Online Experts that I feel are most RELEVANT and MOST USEFUL... not novel... gimmicky... or "fun." Real Use Cases.
Notice... this list includes nothing that smoothes my brain into a robot-conforming, non-thinking lemming that "trusts" AI will build my business for me. No, no, no. YOU are still in the driver's seat!
Ok, let's dive in!
AI USE #1. Bots By Design: Unlike generic ChatGPT-style content, these bots are expertly trained on YOUR content and frameworks... and they help your students do the heavy lifting, so they can move faster and get unstuck quicker. Inside Business By Design we have bots that write your copy, review your landing pages, and debrief your launches... and they are epic!
Using a software called MindPal, you can create bots that HELP your students come up with content, ideas, etc. and BAKE IT directly into your products and programs!
AI USE #2. Generating Transcripts: Tools like Descript make it easy to turn our video content into transcripts, allowing us to offer the same valuable material in a written format that supports different learning styles and preferences.
Every Podcast, YouTube Video, and Paid Content video now has a transcript.
AI USE #3. Generating Video Summaries and Descriptions: AI lets us take a video or transcript and instantly turn it into a clear, concise summary or description, so our students know exactly what every video covers and can zero in on the content that matters most to them.
Often times you can just throw the transcript into ChatGPT and ask for a description along with your specific parameters. NOW, when creating your next course, each video can have thorough descriptions to assist students!
AI USE #4. Research and Analysis: We use AI to help us analyze Zoom chat replies, email replies, survey responses, and email data trends, so we can uncover patterns, insights, and feedback at scale without spending hours sifting through data. This is huge, because we have never had the personal bandwidth to do this. But imagine feeding 500 survey responses into AI for all sorts of layed data analysis!
AI USE #5. Creating Simple Software: Tools like Canva's AI Coding Option make it easier than ever to create simple, interactive tools for our students, like calculators, matrices, and other customizable, interactive software solutions for students and audience members.
Recently we built a "love letters" software... users clicked on an interactive envelope and it automatically sent them a random-generated letter from one of our BBD alumni.
AI USE #6. Course Resources: This is cool. AI and ChatGPT can assist in creating supplementary and supportive tools and resources to accompany your course content. Think graphs, quizzes, images, frameworks and interactive software to accompany your content. Including... giving your students ChatGPT prompts they can work with!
AI USE #7. Copy Grammar Checks + Proofreading: Let's get real, we should never have another typo ever again! haha! I used to use a team member to manually proofread everything before sending it out! Now your ChatGPT can instantly do it for you. Just throw a piece of content into ChatGPT and ask it to point out any typos or grammar mistakes.
Here's my stupid simple prompt for that:
"Here’s my email. Please only correct grammar and spelling. Keep my tone, style, and meaning exactly the same. Do not rewrite sentences unless needed for grammar. Show me the corrected version only.
[Paste your email here]"
AI USE #8. Making Your Copy 4th Grade Level: ALL of your COPY must be 4th Grade Level. Did you know it's super easy to do this in ChatGPT?!
a) INSIDE ChatGPT: Select "Tools" ---> CANVAS.
b) Post your Copy and submit it
c) On the Bottom Right Hand Corner, you can adjust READING LEVEL

AI USE #9. Improving Copy, Headlines and Hooks: As much as I want to discourage you from "outsourcing" your copy and content to AI... that doesn't mean you can't let it help you IMPROVE your drafts.
You see, even GREAT copywriters find themselves stuck writing in one or two notes... they have their go-to angles or perspectives, and can't write outside of their own box. Asking AI to improve a draft of copy... CAN really improve your copy.
Here are a few specific ways you can ask ChatGPT to improve your copy:
1) "Tighten up the language so I share the same message but in less words. Concise and simple sentences."
2) "Give me another angle or perspective that I'm not seeing here."
3) "Give me 10 ideas for powerful email subject lines that will increase open rates and still be relevant to this email copy."
4) "Enhance this text to create more urgency and inspire action."
5) "Make this copy more emotionally compelling while staying true to my brand voice."
...you get the idea!
Fun Fact 01: I find Claude to still be better at copy (and most tasks frankly) than ChatGPT.
Fun Fact 02: Grab your 5 previous, highest-performing emails and throw them into Claude and ask for an EMAIL WRITING STYLE GUIDE. NOW... use this as your template to have Claude assist in writing future emails!
AI USE #10. AI Customer Support: This is cool. So, we use a software called Intercom. It now allows you to AI-Train a Chat-Bot for your Sales Pages... we had 998 individual support tickets opened on one sales page... and there was a 91.8% SUCCESS/COMPLETION of those convos with our AI Support Desk... how cool is that?!
AI USE #11. AI Teacher Assistant Bot: This bot, powered by Creator.io, is designed to help students inside our programs by answering questions and pointing them in the right direction so they can move faster without waiting for one on one help. This really is like a Teacher's Assistant!
AI USE #12. Documenting Process Management: Tools like ScribeHow automatically document processes for tasks while they're being completed. These instantly created step-by-step guides can then be used to train anyone, which helps me and my team in delegating tasks.
AI USE #13. Turning Existing Content Into Social Posts: AI can help repurpose existing content, like videos, podcasts, freebies, and coaching calls, into attention grabbing social posts so we can show up consistently online without always creating content from scratch.
AI USE #14. Creating Keynote Slides: Tools like Gamma (and possibly ChatGPT AGENT MODE?!) can take content and create keynote slides so you can spend less time designing and more time delivering impactful content.
COOL WAYS to Use AI that I didn't want to mention...
Yes, you can create cool images, funny videos, (Playphrase.me let's you find any phrase across thousands of movies!) or epic cinematic looking videos, and original songs with silly lyrics... cool! Use all those things!
I'm just pointing out these new and exciting features won't be the top drivers of growth in your business.
You can also use AI to clone yourself and make 1,001 fake videos of yourself per day... cool! But I'm not recommending that... and many obvious reasons for why not.
BUT WHERE I AM MOST EXCITED AND IMPRESSED WITH AI...
...it's not in how WE can use it, but rather in how our favorite TOOLS are using it.
Capcut (and other editing tools) are adding TONS of AI Features to make editing, captions, and b-roll EASIER than ever before.
Monday.com (our project management platform) integrates with AI features to make projects more streamlined.
Canva ALSO has some COOL AI Integrations including their CODING features!
And... HOSPITABLE (for my Airbnb Peeps) has some cool AI features that custom crafts and automates messages to guests... YES!!
In Conclusion...
My business has not drastically or radically changed via AI. It's assisted in making things more efficient, for sure! We are doing what we have done... what I've always outsourced to a Virtual Assistant... now with an AI agent doing it. Things are getting faster and more efficient... and I LOVE that, but not... different.
My advice, and my reason for writing this series... is be careful not to get too "distracted" by AI that you lose sight of your existing Business, your Marketing Plan and your pre-existing goals.
Now... just look at the bottlenecks or constraints in your business, and see if you can let AI speed up the process or take something off of your or your team's plate.
I hope this helps!
