[30Daysto30K] Day 7 - Coupons and Discounts!
Ok, today I want to discuss the very important distinctions and nuances around coupons and discounts. It is often believed I am being contradictory with my stance on discounts, but it's only because people don't understand what I'm communicating. So, let's get into it.
Rule 01: Do NOT EVER Do Sales or Discounts!
If you do... you train your audience to wait for the sale, you create an IMBALANCE with people who buy at the discount, and you disrespect the customers who paid full price. So Do. Not. DISCOUNT. Ever.
Now... here's how to discount your stuff:
Haha!
Ok, read this carefully. You can use a discount strategy, WHEN the discounted price is the ACTUAL price.
Example 1: I sell Sales Page By Design on my website for $997. You hop on my webinar, I show you that website price, and pitch it for $497. The price of SPBD is $497.
Example 2: I run an ad for my Conversion Cards. It's a 50% off discount from $97 to $47. The price is $47.
This is nuaced, but strategic.
I wouldn't then offer SPBD for $297 or Conversion Cards for $27. No. THOSE are their true prices.
So... I love this strategy. Anchor a "higher price" on your website, and offer it cheaper when you pitch it. But the "cheaper" price is the TRUE PRICE. Make sense, right?
Ok, well, if you decide to do this, here is a super cool strategy for executing this: APPLY a coupon code, and actually show the APPLIED coupon code ON the checkout page!
In other words, when your buyers "click" on over to your checkout page, they will SEE the coupon code has already been applied... the saving is there!
Samcart has the ability to do this. They have demostrated that it has a MASSIVE uptick in conversions, and I've gone ahead and included the step-by-step instructions for how to do this below:
β How to Send Someone to a SamCart Checkout With a Coupon Already Applied
SamCart lets you do this using a URL parameter.
πΉ STEP 1: Create (or Identify) Your Coupon in SamCart
-
Go to SamCart β Products
-
Click the product you want
-
Go to the Coupons tab
-
Either:
-
Create a new coupon
-
Or use an existing one
-
Make note of:
-
Coupon Code (example:
SAVE50)
β οΈ Coupon codes are case-sensitive in the URL β copy it exactly.
πΉ STEP 2: Get Your Checkout Page URL
This is your normal product checkout link, for example:
https://yourbrand.samcart.com/products/product-name
This is the base URL.
πΉ STEP 3: Add the Coupon Parameter to the URL
At the end of the checkout URL, add:
?coupon=COUPONCODE
Example:
If your coupon is SAVE50, the final URL becomes:
https://yourbrand.samcart.com/products/product-name?coupon=SAVE50
β When someone clicks this link:
-
Checkout page opens
-
Coupon is automatically applied
-
Price updates instantly
-
They donβt need to type anything
πΉ STEP 4: Test It (IMPORTANT)
Always test in:
-
Incognito window
-
Logged out of SamCart
Make sure:
-
Coupon applies automatically
-
Discount amount is correct
-
Coupon field is pre-filled or hidden
